DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SANITATION Trash: The Department of Public Works and Sanitation is on their winter schedule. Have your trash out BEFORE 7:00 a.m. on the day of pick-up. For those residents that have access to a lane, put your trash there. For those of you who are “walk-ins” do not put your trash out any earlier than 24 hours. Trash pickup is once a week as follows:
North side of town - Thursday Please note that trash or recycling pick-up may be suspended due to heavy snowstorms. Pick-up will resume as soon as possible. Please shovel out your trashcans after a storm.
ALL GARBAGE MUST BE IN CANS WITH LIDS PER BOROUGH ORDINANCE!
Recycling: Recycling is every other Wednesday, Rain or Shine, in the entire town as follows: Put your recyclables out the night before – The men start early in the morning. Your recyclables must be out on the lane or curb in proper containers where they are easily seen. Do not put lids on the containers. Mark your containers with an “R” or “Recycling” and pull them out to the edge of the street so they are easily identified as recyclables. Newspapers must be tied in bundles. We do not pick up residential cardboard, junk mail or magazines any longer. You may bring cardboard to the recycling center if you wish. Junk mail and magazines go in regular garbage. We do pick up cardboard from businesses only. Please remember that GLASS MEANS BOTTLES ONLY. It does not include drinking glasses, dishes, plate glass, windows, light bulbs, etc. These items belong in the garbage. The recycling drop off center is located at the Public Works Yard. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Drop off center is closed on holidays. Things that are accepted: glass bottles, tin cans, plastic bottles, aluminum cans and newspapers. We don’t pick up cardboard, but you can bring it to the drop off center. It must be broken down and tied in bundles. PLEASE, this recycling area is for AVON RESIDENTS ONLY & FOR RECYCLABLES ONLY! NO TRASH OR GARBAGE OF ANY KIND!!!!! PLEASE PARK IN THE DESIGNATED AREA ONLY. DO NOT LEAVE THINGS OUTSIDE THE GATE! Do not bring bulk or metal items to the Borough yard! It will be picked up curbside. Leaves: Leaves are to be put loose in the curb until about December 15th. They are to be put in the main avenues, not the lanes. Please keep the piles of leaves 3 feet away from the curb, so rain doesn’t wash them down to the culverts. Please advise your gardeners and landscapers of these rules. Brush: Will be picked up by Public Works, if it is cut into 4-foot lengths and tied in bundles. Snow Removal: As per Borough Ordinance Chapter 161, Article IXA, during a snowstorm, do not park on the east and north sides of the streets. Within twenty-four hours of the snow stopping, move your car to the opposite side of the street. Any vehicle parked in violation of this ordinance could be subject to a fine and the vehicle may be towed. |
